The name Marcus is also spelled as Marquis. Undoubtedly, Marcus was named for the famous Revolutionary War General, Marquis de Lafayette. At this time it is a mystery as to why he was named after the famous general. It was either in honor of the famous general or it was because one of his ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War.<br />
